A.C.O.R.N.

 
Hello fellow members of Zion.  We are a new small group ministry beginning here at Zion.  Our name is A.C.O.R.N., which stands for Assisting Christ’s Out Reach to Nations.  We’ve based our mission statement on the Bible verse Isaiah 6:8 and our mission statement is: Responding to Christ’s call of “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”  We will enable, prepare, and send people into ministry, whether around the world or across the street.  We will involve the found in seeking the lost and we will serve the needy in response to the gospel.  We are currently meeting once per month on the 3^rd Monday at 7:00 PM at the school. 

We feel there is a great need to support the members of our church called to do mission work.  Did you know we have already had one member of our church go on a mission trip to Venezuela this past January, 2004?  Her name is Kris Valley and a member of our group.  We also have two other members preparing to go on mission trips this summer. Sarah Schember will be going to Mexico on June 18^th and Angela Jammer will be going on a MOST eyeglass mission trip to Venezuela on June 11th. We are looking for prayer partners that would agree to pray for them while they are preparing to go and while they are on their trips.  Please contact one of the group members below to volunteer to be a prayer partner for these girls. 

We also have short-term goals of planning some Zion Church mission trips to help in God’s work within Michigan and possibly within the United States.  We have a long-term goal to plan a Zion Church mission trip to another country.  We are still in the planning stages and looking for ideas.  With God’s blessings we hope to grow in his work. 

 We are establishing a fund to help monetarily support our members going on mission trips and to complete small mission projects for members of our own church and of our community.  If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the fund, checks can be made out to Zion Lutheran Church - ACORN.   If, in the future, you would want to donate to a specific person’s mission trip or a specific mission project you could place that person’s name or the project in the comments section of your check and we would be sure the money is directed to them.
