What
is a Caring Shepherd? He or she is a dedicated Christian who
cares about people who fall away from Church attendance and
wants to do something about it. The plan is for Zion’s office
to track those people who miss church a number of weekends in a
row (perhaps four or six). The Caring Shepherd would then make
one or two phone calls during that week to reconnect with the
person and let them know that they have been missed.
Perhaps you have wondered, “Whatever happened to So-and-So? I
wonder why I haven’t seen them in Church lately?” A Caring
Shepherd would ask that very question, encouraging them to
faithful worship, and letting them know that the people of God
here care about them.
For this program to be successful, Zion will need volunteers
from all walks of life and various stages of life. We’ll need
young singles, married parents with kids, single parents, and
empty nesters. We’ll need people that can pick up the phone
and contact members that haven’t attended in the last four weeks
or so and ask about their life and worship.
Perhaps you have a desire to serve the Lord in this effort, but
aren’t sure where your skills would fit in. We’ll also need
people that can work behind the scenes supporting our network.
These behind the scenes members will work with the Pastors and
the Caring Shepherds to provide a coordinated effort in
contacting vulnerable members. Do you have some free time on
Monday mornings that you could help with a vital piece of the
program? Do you have typing or computer skills? We could use
your skills to work on our Caring Shepherds team.
We will be providing training so that no one will be unsupported
in the efforts to make contact with members. We will also put
in place follow up meetings so that volunteers will be able
provide feedback and suggest improvements.
If you are interested in helping out, a few hours a week for
some and maybe a few hours a month for others, we would like you
to call the office, (989)662-4264 and join us. Please consider
joining our team in putting this effort together and encouraging
fellow believers in their walk of faith. |
