Zion Lutheran

Programs

Zion Lutheran School is accredited by the National Lutheran School Accreditation and the Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools. Zion follows the Grade Level Content Expectations of the Michigan Department of Education as we see them fitting into our mission for the school.

A detailed academic program focusing on individual skills is a primary reason students graduate from Zion Lutheran School prepared to proceed to the next areas of education. Our students are instructed in all areas of the curriculum. Student's individual needs are addressed and corrective intervention measures are taken when needed.

Reading, Grammar, Spelling, and Mathematics are taught at grade level in multi-grade classrooms. Children who accelerate and those that need extra instruction may be moved to subject content that meets their needs. Science, Social Studies, and Religion are taught together as one class alternating years in the multi-grade classrooms.

Zion Lutheran School has begun using 21st century teaching strategies. Zion has a networked computer lab that allows students in each classroom to use the computers to enhance the educational experience. Experienced students use Web 2.0 applications to further their knowledge in the classroom. Junior high students at Zion have access to computers integrated directly into their classroom on a 1 to 1 basis meaning each student has a workstation available right at their desk.

Zion has special teachers to work with our students in Art and Music Education. These teachers work with the children one day a week in these areas of study. In addition, Zion also has performance music with all children as students are prepared in voice choirs and hand bells/chimes. Band instruction is also available to our 5th through 8th grade students through a shared instructor from Valley Lutheran High School.

Zion Lutheran also participates with the supplementary reading program called Accelerated Reading. Children read books and take comprehension and vocabulary tests using the web-based program. Children and groups are rewarded for points earned using the Accelerated Reading program. Over 100,000 books are a part of the reading program.
